How to Play Roulette - The Basic Rules

Rules Rules

Roulette rules are really quite straightforward. When you are playing this game there is a wheel that has black and red slots that have the numbers 1-36 written on them, and one green slot with a 0 on it. Depending on the variant that you are playing, there might be an extra green slot with a 00 on it. To start a game, the dealer, known as the croupier, spins the wheel and every player has to place their chips on the layout in front of them. As the wheel is spinning, the dealer will call out "no more bets" and everyone sits and waits in anticipation to see where the ball will land. If your prediction is right, you will win some money. If it is wrong, you will lose your wager.

What Are the Roulette Bet Types?

When it comes to betting on roulette, there are two categories of bets: outside bets and inside bets. If you place an outside bet, then you are putting your money on a large group of numbers such as red or black, odd or even, or 1-18/19-36. If you put down an inside bet, then you are betting on a single number or a small group of numbers. Inside bets are more difficult to win than outside bets, but the payouts are much better.

Why are they called outside and inside bets? Well, when you are playing roulette there is a layout with all of the different betting options on it. You place your wager by placing your chips on the section that you want to bet on. The sections on the outside of the layout are known as outside bets, while the sections on the inside are known as inside bets. See, there is really nothing complicated about it.

Roulette FAQs

Below are five questions that are frequently asked about roulette.

❓ What is the Best Bet in Roulette?

Well, this is quite subjective as some roulette players might consider The Best Bet to be one where they have the highest chance of winning, while other roulette players will consider the best bet to be the one where they can win the most money. For the former, the best bet would be the even money bets, while for the latter the best would be a single number bet.

❓ What Number Hits the Most in Roulette?

This is not an easy question to answer and is something that you should not get too fixed on. Roulette is a Game of Chance and studying the amount of times that each number wins is not going to benefit you in the long run. If the ball lands on 20 on one spin, there is just as much chance of the ball landing on 20 again during the next spin and there is the same amount of chance that it does not.

❓ How Do the Odds Work in Roulette?

The Roulette Odds work exactly the same as they do in any other casino game. As in, the lower the odds, the less chance you have of winning. However, if you do go on to win, you will pick up a nice profit. If you opt for just one number, then you have a 2.7% chance of winning. However, if you go for red or black, you have a 48.6% chance of winning. Please remember that the odds will vary depending on what roulette variant you are playing.

❓ What Are the Payouts in Roulette?

When you are Playing Roulette, no matter what variant it is, you will find that casinos will give better payouts when you take more of a risk. For example, if you go for the hardest option and place your wager on a single number, you will get a payout of 35:1. However, if you go for even/odd, red/black, or 1-18/19-36, then you will receive a payout of just 1:1. Getting a column or a dozen prediction right pays out at 2:1.

❓ Is There a Strategy to Win Roulette?

There are plenty of different strategies that roulette players use to try and improve their chances of winning when playing at casinos. Some examples include the Martingale, the Reverse Martingale, the D'Alambert Strategy, the James Bond Strategy, and the Fibonacci Strategy. These are just some of the strategies that you can try out while playing roulette. We recommend that you read up about these and try them out while playing roulette for free. You never know, you might just find a strategy that will help you win more money.
