Launched back in 1958 as Bank Americard, now Visa Inc. is an international firm that holds a 44% market share of credit cards and 48% in debit cards. It facilitates transactions between financial institutions, merchants, customers, and even government organizations. Payments can be made at one of the millions of points of sale worldwide, in online shops, and online casinos or physically in a store. The cards can also be used to withdraw money out of an ATM, both domestically and internationally.
In the same way as with MasterCard, numerous licensed financial institutions issue the Visa branded debit and credit card to their customers. The credit card facility is managed by your bank and any applicable rates, terms, and limits are also set by them.

How does Visa work?
Visa debit and credit cards operate on the same principle as all other debit and credit cards. All transactions are submitted for approval by Visa at the time they’re made and if there are sufficient funds available then the transaction will be accepted. Visa also offers an additional layer of security called ‘Verified by Visa’ which is essentially a secondary password for verifying online purchases. When paying for goods and services online, like at an online casino for example, you select the Visa payment method and enter your card details; the long number across the middle as well as expiry date and the security number on the reverse of the card. Next you decide the amount and then confirm the whole transaction.
When using the Visa credit card there may be a fee for different transactions. These will always be set by your bank so it’s a good idea to check with them to see what fees are applicable on each type of transaction. When making purchases with a Visa debit card there are no fees and if any are applied they come directly from the merchant and not the bank.
